Sevcon revs up recruitment plans

Gateshead-based electric vehicle company Sevcon is launching the first phase of its ambitious recruitment drive, which will eventually boost staff numbers by 200 over the next three years.

The company employs 80 skilled engineering staff in the Team Valley and is set to take on 20 staff over the "next few months". It is currently in the market for skilled engineers, primarily engineering technicians and test engineers.

The recruitment drive comes on the back of Sevcon securing a series of major contracts worth a total of £320m. It also recently had plans approved to expand into a larger Gateshead premises.

"Sevcon has strong roots in the North East and is very keen to invest in and nurture local talent. In particular, we're looking for male and female technicians and engineers wanting to make their mark in the world."

The company designs and manufactures controllers for electric and hybrid vehicles. It has been based on the Team Valley for more than 50 years and posted record sales of £40m in 2016, up from £33m in 2015.
