Silverstone Building Consultancy has won a contract to lead on the development of new student accommodation near Northumbria University City Campus East. Situated on the corner of New Bridge Street and Clarence Street, the site of former retail and commercial buildings is set to deliver 100 new student bedrooms, comprising 37 studios and 63 cluster flats of four to six bedrooms. Demolition has begun to make way for the student residential development, which is scheduled for completion in 18 months’ time.
Louise Stewart, director at Silverstone Building Consultancy, commented: “Our local knowledge and experience enables us to give our client complete peace of mind, particularly as they’re based outside the region.
“Our practical and proactive management approach will ensure risks are spotted and mitigated at the earliest opportunity to ensure the scheme is successfully delivered, on time and on budget, ready to provide a home away from home for our region’s students.”
Designed by Sadler Brown architects, the project has appointed Surgo Construction as the main contractor.
Martin Blight, director at Surgo Construction, added: “It’s brilliant to have started work on this high-profile scheme, and to be part of a great delivery team bringing it to life.
“We look forward to again working together with Silverstone Building Consultancy to create state-of-the-art accommodation that will offer residents the best possible quality of student living.”
